Welcome to the Bogey Hole Café, the charming heart of Bronte Beach’s bustling café scene. Fresh, honest food is our philosophy. All of our food including cakes, muffins, jams, sauces are home-made and we proudly serve Salvador Sydney coffee and homemade teas.

The café was named after the rockpool at Bronte which is called the bogey hole. ‘Bogey’ is an aboriginal word for safe swimming hole and generations of toddlers have learnt to swim there. To the locals it is a special place.

The café began in 1993 when Hannah’s parents Debra and Richard Gray, long term residents of the area, recognised the need for an outdoor café at Bronte. Hannah’s family has been involved in running shops at Bronte since the 1940’s. Her great grandmother ‘Missy Lowe’ had a Chinese restaurant and milk bar.

Hannah’s passion for food stems from her 2 great grandmothers, one Italian and one Chinese, the best of both worlds! Her grandmother, Molly Moyes, has featured on SBS’s Food Lovers’ Guide with her gigantic Chinese New Year’s celebration cooking for 200 people. Her Mother Debra became a wonderful cook, specialising in cakes and pastries and brought many great recipes that have become staples at Bogey Hole.

From humble beginnings the business grew and encouraged competition in the form of other cafes, and Bronte now boasts a strip of nine cafes.  In 2012 Hannah took over and has grown the cafe and business which now has twice as many tables.  She also does Catering for the photography industry, events and functions.
