In The Area

The coastal walk

Sydney’s famous Bondi to Coogee Walk is a popular coastal walk offering beautiful coastline vistas and cosy beaches. The walk is six kilometers long (one way) and takes about 2 hours to complete at an easy pace. The walk passes through one of the world’s most scenic operational cemeteries, the Waverley Cemetery where graves of famous Australians such as Henry Lawson can be found.

Perfect for day trips, The Bogey Hole Cafe is an ideal way to break up the walk and refuel.

The walk is easy to medium with a steep section and quite a few steps. Don’t forget your hat, sunscreen and some water. There are safe places to swim (natural rock and ocean pools) and beach showers at all the main beaches (Bondi, Tamarama, Clovelly and Coogee) in case you decide to take a dip and need to wash off.

For more information and maps, please visit the information page on Waverley Council’s website.

Sculptures by the sea

Every Spring, the Bondi to Tamarama Beach section of the walk is transformed with the Sculptures by the Sea exhibition. This world class event brings thousands of people to Sydney’s famous coastline and includes breathtaking works from local and international sculptors. The exhibition runs for three weeks and is best viewed on weekdays when the crowds are thinner. For more information and updates on exhibition dates, please visit the official Sculptures by the Sea website.

Bronte ocean baths

The local ocean pool at the southern end of the beach is a favourite swimming spot for the locals. Built in the late nineteenth-century, the pool has featured on postcards since the early 1900s and attracts many photographers and artists to this day. The pool is free to enter and open to the public all year round from sunrise to sunset. Change rooms and showers are on site.
